Garde are currently well underway on the Matraville to Maroubra cable project. This work includes a 4 km trench, installation of 24km of conduits and 12 km of single core 132kV cable between Bunnerong Substation and Maroubra Substation, Sydney. A set of spare conduits are installed in parallel for a future cable circuit.
There are also 5 x pre-cast joint bays (including 3 spares for future) and two fibre circuits being installed. The new 132kV cables will replace existing oil-filled cables which are reaching the end of their lifespan. To date, all conduits, joint bays and 8km of 132kV cables are installed.
Cable jointing is programmed to commence at the end of May 2022.The project has been challenging with excessive wet weather, and sandy conditions.
The project is progressing well with experienced crews on the ground – zero safety & environmental incidents, and tracking to program to complete on time.
