Sydney Metro – Martin Place And Pitt St 11KV HVC And Reticulation

Sydney Metro – Martin Place And Pitt St 11KV HVC And Reticulation

This package included both civil and electrical works associated with the Sydney Metro Martin Place, Pitt Street and Bligh Street sites. Works included the decommissioning of underground substations beneath Martin Place, and electrical reticulation required to decommission this substation. These works were challenging, with limited space within the underground cavern as well as access through hatches within the very busy and pedestrianised Martin Place in Sydney’s CBD. The substation and associated infrastructure was dismantled and removed successfully.

Additional works included the electrical reticulation required to relocate a bank of 20 existing services from within the new Martin Place Station excavation footprint. This involved the installation of a new temporary duct line, supply and installation cable, jointing and terminations of those cables, and coordination of the required power outages to facilitate these works. New jointing pits were constructed to facilitate these works.

A new temporary 11kV HVC kiosk substation was established at Pitt Street in Sydney’s CBD to supply construction power during this phase of works, and was removed at the completion of these works. At 33 Bligh Street, electrical reticulation was required to provide construction power, including the supply and installation of a new 11kV HVC kiosk substation. This location was unique in that it required a steel structure to be constructed to accommodate the six ton substation and the associated 20 ton sand bed. All associated substation earthing, underground trenching, conduit install, cable supply, installation, terminations and jointing were also completed as part of these works.
