The thermal properties of soils surrounding underground cables affect cable ratings and long term performance. Utilising state-of-the art technology in portable testing equipment and laboratory facilities, Garde Geotherm offers:

• surveys of new and existing underground cable installations, including ‘in-situ’ and laboratory thermal resistivity testing of native soils
• laboratory testing of soil samples and beddings for classification, compactability and moisture content
• thermal stability analysis of soils to test for potential thermal runaway
• design of compactable granular and slurry type thermal bedding materials
• consultation on bedding placement and quality assurance.

Garde Geotherm services at a glance

• In-Situ testing of the native ground in which the cables will be laid that will provide a “snapshot” of the Thermal Resistivity value at the time of the test.
• Laboratory testing of soil samples to determine:
• The Thermal Resistivity of the material in the fully dried out state
• The Thermal Resistivity versus moisture content relationship of samples (Dry out curves) for each distinguishable material type encountered.
• Develop specialised bedding materials (from local suppliers) that can achieve reliable Thermal Resistivity values when installed as specified.
• Quality control of site installed materials.
